Two‑factor authentication (2FA) adds a second layer of protection on top of your password.
Even if your password is compromised, accessing your account becomes much harder.

1. Types of 2FA

  • One‑time passwords via SMS
  • Mobile authenticator apps (Google Authenticator, Authy, etc.)
  • Hardware security keys (e.g. YubiKey)

2. General Setup Steps

  1. Open the security settings of your account.
  2. Look for “Two‑Factor Authentication” or “2FA”.
  3. Prefer using an authenticator app rather than SMS.
  4. Scan the QR code shown on screen with your app.
  5. Enter the 6‑digit code generated by the app to confirm.
  6. Save the backup codes in a safe place if provided.

3. Why Prefer an App Over SMS?

  • SMS can be vulnerable to SIM‑swap attacks.
  • Authenticator apps work offline and are harder to intercept.
  • You can manage many accounts from a single app.

4. Things to Watch Out For

  • If you lose your phone, you will need the backup codes.
  • If possible, install the authenticator app on a second device as well.
  • Never share your password or 2FA codes with anyone.
