Two‑factor authentication (2FA) adds a second layer of protection on top of your password.
Even if your password is compromised, accessing your account becomes much harder.
1. Types of 2FA
- One‑time passwords via SMS
- Mobile authenticator apps (Google Authenticator, Authy, etc.)
- Hardware security keys (e.g. YubiKey)
2. General Setup Steps
- Open the security settings of your account.
- Look for “Two‑Factor Authentication” or “2FA”.
- Prefer using an authenticator app rather than SMS.
- Scan the QR code shown on screen with your app.
- Enter the 6‑digit code generated by the app to confirm.
- Save the backup codes in a safe place if provided.
3. Why Prefer an App Over SMS?
- SMS can be vulnerable to SIM‑swap attacks.
- Authenticator apps work offline and are harder to intercept.
- You can manage many accounts from a single app.
4. Things to Watch Out For
- If you lose your phone, you will need the backup codes.
- If possible, install the authenticator app on a second device as well.
- Never share your password or 2FA codes with anyone.
